Rules
- Come to class prepared.
- Do your best.
- Take responsibility for your actions.
- Maintain a productive work environment.
- Be respectful.
- Demonstrate honesty and integrity.
That's it! These are our rules. They are nonnegotiable and enforced using a system of progressive discipline in the classroom:
Consequence 1: Student will be given a verbal warning.
Consequence 2: Student will be counseled about behavior from the teacher and write a written reflection.
Consequence 3: Student will be separated (within the classroom) for a period of time and lose a privilege, and parents will be notified through phone call, note, or email.
Consequence 4: Student will be sent to Assistant Principal or Principal with a Behavior Referral.
Most students don't receive consequences as much as recognition and rewards for good behavior. These can include but are not limited to the following:
- Special technology privileges
- Lunch with the teacher
- Leadership opportunities
Policies
Homework
Homework is not graded, but it is checked each day. Homework is assigned Mondays - Thursday excluding days before holidays. Students are expected to complete 50 minutes of homework each night plus reading. Some assignments will not take as long. Students are encouraged to do extra practice when there is extra time.
Homework is practice of skills and concepts learned in class. If a student does not fully understand a concept that is on the homework, he/she should attempt the assignment; make a note on that assignment; and be prepared to ask the teacher the next day.
Life does happen, and sometimes homework cannot be completed for one reason or another. If homework cannot be completed, please let me know. As long as the student is not missing assignments regularly, it shouldn't be a problem to make it up at another time. While homework is not graded, it is indicated on the report card under Student Learning Behaviors.

Absences
If a student is going to be absent, please contact me, and I will make an attempt to give some practice and homework to do while the student is gone. Some work and instruction may need to be made up after the absence.
When a student is returning from an absence, it is his/her responsibility to get the missing assignments and communicate with the teacher about missed instruction. Students will be given a minimum of three days to make up any missed work. More time to make up work will be at the teacher's discretion and made on a case by case basis.
When returning from an absence, the student should place documentation of the absence in the absence bag.

Procedures
Procedures are the classroom routines that keep the classroom moving smoothly. They differ from rules as there are many of them. All of our classroom procedures are taught and practiced. Learning procedures is ongoing. When procedures are not being followed, we review the purpose of the procedure; the procedure is modeled; and students practice the procedure. While no one can detail every procedure, as they are learned, they will be listed below with a description.
